Good News @ 27 Weeks

I had my dreaded glucose tolerance test on Monday and I am happy to report that it was not a big deal at all. I'd heard horror stories of how nasty the drink is and since I don't do well with medicinal liquids, I was very concerned. My doctor assured me it really isn't bad and she was completely right. I had the tasty orange one and it was like a non-carbonated Orange Crush. It wasn't the easiest thing for me to drink the 10oz in 3-5 minutes, but I got it done.

Thursday morning we had our 27 week appointment and got great news that I do NOT have gestational diabetes. I am so glad and I know Benton is as well. He told me I would be a cranky one to be around if I couldn't have sugar (and carbs) and he is probably right.

We also had a surprise fourth ultrasound on Thursday and got more great news that the Choroid Plexus Cyst they found in our third ultrasound is gone! When we found out about the cyst, Dr. Martin assured us that there was no cause for concern based on the results from all of my other tests and that most of the time the cysts go away (and even if they don't it does not affect anything), but it was reassuring to know that it is in fact gone. AND it was great to get to see Haven move around and get some more pictures of her while they checked it out. She's a mover and a shaker and was showing off for the sonographer. She weighs 2.2 lbs, her heart rate was 150, it looks like she has my chubby cheeks and Benton's toes (with the second one longer than the first).

We start going to the doctor every two weeks now. It's hard to believe the third trimester is already here!

Seth Gets Hitched

Benton, Amy, my parents, and I all headed to Ruidoso, NM last Thursday for Seth's wedding. The trip seemed pretty quick, but it was uncharacteristically painless and the weather was a great change from the Dallas heat. We got in town just in time for the rehearsal dinner on Thursday - it was really nice and the food was delicious!

As always, we had lots of fun catching up with all of our New Mexico family and friends that we don't get to see often enough. I'm glad my parents and Amy were able to go too. Benton and I are SO incredibly lucky to both love our in-laws and for them to not only get along, but truly enjoy each other.
Side note: Seth's frosting cake was so good that I made a total pig of myself. I had two pieces (in my defense, I leave a lot of the cake because all I really want is the frosting) and then my dad found me a corner piece with uber amounts of frosting, so of course I had to eat it too. I have never felt Haven move like she did on Friday night. I swear she was doing the worm (over and over again); it was pretty wild! She must love sugar just like her mom :)

We're Not in Kansas Anymore

This past weekend we took a very quick, but long trip to Hutchinson, KS for my cousin's wedding. We got up at 5AM Saturday morning to meet my cousin, Mike, and his wife, Erika for the drive up. We hadn't even made it to Sherman yet when Benton's AC switched to heat - not just air from outside, but 90 degree heat. The good thing was that it was only the two drivers side vents and not the whole car, the bad thing was you couldn't close one of the vents so it was miserable for Benton. He put the air on defrost to make the best of it for about two hours until we found a dealership to stop at in Norman. Apparently, this is a normal problem for Yukon's because the service guy knew exactly what Benton was talking about when he explained the problem. Again - bad news - 3 or 4 hours to fix it, but the good news - if you turn the car off and restart it, most of the time it will click back to AC (rather than heat). Sure enough, when the service guy came out to the car and restarted it, we had AC, so we just went on our way.

We got to Hutch in time to eat lunch and hang out briefly before we got ready for Heather's wedding. That was the longest (and most interesting) non-Catholic wedding I have ever been to. The reception was nice and it is always great fun to see all of our family. I must say that we have spent more than a fair amount of time in Kansas over the last two years - 4 weddings and 2 80th birthday parties - and it is not the quickest trip. We are Kansased-out!

Sunday was definitely the longest trip back. Road trips while pregnant are not good because we have to stop way too much so I can go to the bathroom. Then we sat at a dead stop on 35 for 30 minutes in Oklahoma because of a wreck AND to top off the trip, my pregnant brain left my dress and Benton's suit in the closet at the hotel. Luckily, no one wanted a maternity dress and a suit tailored to Benton so my dad kindly drove back out to Hutch and picked them up for us on Tuesday. There was one highlight - we did stop and eat dinner at Rosa's in Highland Village on the way home which totally made up for everything! Benton probably wouldn't agree, but I LOVE Rosa's.

We're off to another fun family wedding weekend on Thursday - it's the crazy Hyatt's this time :) Hopefully, we'll remember to take some pictures this time.
