31.5 Weeks

We had yet another uneventful doctor appointment last week. We were back with Dr. Martin for the thrilling pee in a cup, weigh, blood pressure, baby heartbeat, belly measure routine. Haven's heart rate was up another 5bpm to 155. Everything was "normal." We talked to Dr. Martin about the flu and swine flu shot. Hopefully they will have their flu shots when we go back next week, if not I will probably find one elsewhere.

I have developed a few new "symptoms." I've had a little bit of heartburn, but more often than that I have had reflux. I've also been going to the bathroom a lot more, have trouble breathing sometimes, and get what I assume is a foot in my ribcage fairly often. My "cravings" have switched from tomatoes to sweet. In the first few months, I could not get enough tomatoes (in any form) and didn't really care to have anything sweet. We've had the same bottle of V8 in our refrigerator for months and I haven't touched it, but we can't keep enough sweets. That's probably the reason for the 2lb weight gain in 2 weeks...oops!

On that note, I did have a breakdown a couple weeks ago that wasn't funny at the time, but is now. I was trying on my "normal" jeans for our maternity pics and many of them didn't come close to fitting. I was depressed and told Benton that I was "pregnant in my butt too" to which he responded "I thought you knew that was going to happen." That was definitely NOT the reaction I was looking for, so my breakdown escalated. Apparently I am over it now because I haven't forced my sweet tooth to subside. I have been taking Dutch for about 3 mile walks everyday, so that should count for something, right?

The Last Hurrah

Amy, Benton, Dutch, and I flew to Destin for Labor Day weekend. My parents were already there and Sarah met us at the airport. It was a great relaxing family weekend! Literally, all we did was lay on the beach and eat. Mom cooked a gourmet breakfast every morning and we went to tasty dinners each night. Saturday night, we went to Commander's Palace, where nothing matters but the cheesecake that is to die for! It takes them three days to make it because they make their own cream cheese. It is seriously A-mazing - it just melts in your mouth! Benton and I wore cute matching outfits on Saturday...

Sarah, Benton and I went to the outlet mall on Monday evening and bought Haven a few outfits for next summer. Children's Place had a ton of cute summer clothes on sale for $.99 and $1.99 - you can't beat that!

It was the perfect way to spend my last trip of the year!

9/3 Doc Appointment

Not much to report, just another quick appointment. We did get to meet one of the other doctors in the practice, Dr. Hays, and we liked her just as much as our doctor. Haven's heartbeat was 150 and I am measuring right on target. I gained 2lbs in 2 weeks, which caused a bit of a gasp. Dr. Hays did talk to us some more about pediatricians. We really need to get rolling on that, it's just a bit overwhelming and I tend to procrastinate on things like that.

Weekend with Faye

Benton's mom, Faye, came in town to help us Benton paint Haven's room. Originally, they were going to paint Haven's room, our bedroom, and bathroom, but we decided to have the painters do our room and bathroom while they were here for the week. Faye drove in from Deming on Thursday and got right to work on Friday morning. With only one room to do instead of three, we were able to do some shopping on Friday afternoon then Benton and I took her to dinner at Perry's for restaurant week. Dinner was pretty good, but the cheesecake was awesome!

Saturday, she and Benton knocked Haven's room out in no time - I think it only took them like 2-3 hours and it looks fantastic! Saturday afternoon we did some more shopping, then my dad and Amy came over for dinner. Faye cooked her famous NM enchiladas and chile rellenos - so tasty!

Sunday morning we went to church and then attempted to go to the Grape for the best burger in Texas (according to Texas Monthly), but didn't realize you have to have reservations on Sunday. Bummer! I guess we'll have to try that another time. We opted for the Porch instead, which was also on the list, and a great old trusty.

Thanks again Faye for making the trek to Dallas and sharing your expert painting skills!

Lunch with Lindsay

I met my sweet friend Lindsay for lunch a few weeks ago and got to spend some good quality time with she and precious Brody. I can't believe that was only the second time I have seen him and he was already 5.5 months. He is a doll and Lindsay is a great mama! He is one of the cutest baby boys I have ever seen. Brody and Haven will be about +/- 8 months apart, but we'll have to do some "playdates" next year. Haven can watch Brody play!

4D Sono...Attempted and Failed :(

Benton and I trucked out to north Plano at the end of August to get a 3D/4D sono done at First Vu and they turned us away. We were super mad at them for not telling us before hand that if my doctor wouldn't sign the paperwork that we couldn't do the sono, but we were also disappointed because we were already there and fired up to see Haven show off her moves.

We had a hard time deciding whether or not to do the sono because I/we were afraid it would taint the moment we get to really see our little girl for the first time. We finally decided to go ahead and do it and were pumped about it only to be let down. Total waste of time and what a bummer!

Under Construction

So under construction might be a little dramatic, but it sure felt that way at the end of August.

We've lived here for almost three years now, and for three years have had "builder blah" paint on the walls. Since we were going to paint Haven's room, we thought it would be a great time to paint some other rooms as well. Some other rooms turned into almost the entire house and an ever growing list of other things for the contractor to do while he was here.

Some mid-painting pictures...

The pictures really don't do the chaos justice. I wish I had taken one of our bathtub in the middle of our bathroom - that was interesting. At any given time, we had furniture where it shouldn't be, no furniture where it should be, and at least half a dozen workers inside and out. We had a Murphy bed installed downstairs, 8 rooms painted, the garage attic floored (and the hole where Benton fell through patched), doors and stairs repaired from bad dogs, the fence re-stained, discovered a freon leak and discovered water damage. My poor pooch was a nervous wreck because he (of course) hated everyone.
We're still working on a few things, but the house looks great! It feels like we moved without actually moving, which is awesome :)
